CONTEXT / DEBATE
Revolving Door Effect From Office to the Supervisory Board — Schröder & Co.
Weeks after the end of his chancellorship in 2005, Gerhard Schröder moved to the Gazprom-controlled Nord Stream AG — a pipeline project he had massively promoted alongside Putin while chancellor. Later, chairman of the supervisory board at Rosneft. He stands as the emblem of the "revolving door": Eckart von Klaeden (Chancellery → Daimler), Ronald Pofalla (Head of the Chancellery → Chief Lobbyist Deutsche Bahn), Kurt Beck (Minister-President → Advisor Boehringer Ingelheim) and others followed the same pattern. The cases triggered debates about stricter cooling-off periods [Karenzzeiten].
